The Third Goal Through Music

The Third Goal of the Peace Corps is to help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans. Many Returned Peace Corps Volunteers participate in Third Goal activities by visiting classrooms, sharing stories, and speaking on various panels.

The Northern California Peace Corps Association is partnering with the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band--the official band of the City and County of San Francisco--to put on a new type of Third Goal event for the Bay Area Peace Corps Community: an evening of classical music that celebrates the Peace Corps! Through music, NorCalPCA and the SFLGFB promote a better understanding of cultures across the globe.

The program includes music that speaks to the values and experiences of Peace Corps Volunteers and music by composers from countries where the Peace Corps has served. We are particularly excited to present Lesotho Variations, a piano solo piece written by RPCV Daniel Carr (Lesotho, 1995-97).

Other program highlights include:

  • In the Steppes of Central Asia by Borodin
  • Danza Final (Malambo) by Ginastera
  • Hands Across The Sea by Sousa
  • Persian Dance No. 2 by Molookpour
  • and many more!

Supporting a Refugee Family

The concert is free, but registration is required to attend. Donations to NorCalPCA are encouraged. After the fall of Kabul in August 2021, NorCalPCA committed to sponsoring an Afghan refugee family with a fundraising goal of $5000. Funds raised will be used to help this family resettle to their new home in the Bay Area.
