The mission of the Peace Corps is to promote world peace and friendship by fulfilling three goals:
To help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women.
To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served.
To help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.
Fulfilling the Third Goal through Music
The Northern California Peace Corps Association is partnering with the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band--the official band of the City and County of San Francisco--to put on a new type of event for the Bay Area Peace Corps Community: an evening of classical music that celebrates the Peace Corps! Through music, NorCalPCA and the SFLGFB promote a better understanding of cultures across the globe.
The program includes music that speaks to the values of the Peace Corps and the work of RPCVs as well as music by composers from countries where the Peace Corps has served. Program highlights include:
- Symphony No. 3, "JFK" by Boysen
- In the Steppes of Central Asia by Borodin
- Lesotho Variations by Carr (RPCV, Lesotho, 1995-97)
- Persian Dance No. 2 by Molookpour
- and many more!
All ticket sales benefit the NorCalPCA general fund, helping us create events for RPCVs, PCV Care Packages, and more. Free and discounted tickets are available by contacting Jesse Schofield at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Following the concert is a potluck reception.
