Water is HER Right!

You are invited to 'Water Is Her Right!', a concert fundraiser featuring magical and joyous West African-fusion music with FULAMUSE! All proceeds will help empower women and increase access to clean water in Sub-Saharan Africa!  

MaMuse + the Fula Brothers (FulaMuse) are coming together to ensure 'Water is Her Right!' by helping to fund the construction of a new deep-water well in a rural community in Africa. This will be the 2nd 'Water is Her Right!' event held in Sonoma County after last year's event succeeded in providing a new well for a rural community in Malawi.

FulaMuse is a double dose of heart poured over African rhythms to uplift the body and soul - the union of two bands (MaMuse + Fula Brothers) who nourish and rouse the collective spirit. MaMuse invokes a musical presence that inspires the opening of the heart. Fula Brothers create an ecstatic groove-based dialogue which the heart – and the feet – cannot resist, featuring Mamadou Sidibe playing a traditional hunters harp from Mali. TRANSFORMING 'WATER IS HER LIFE'...

Women and girls in rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, where The Sonder Project works, bear the overwhelming burden of clean water scarcity - spending large portions of their day collecting water that is inconsistent, unclean, and causes frequent illness in the family. For example, women often describe waking up in the middle of the night or sleeping in the savannah next to unclean water sources, in order to collect enough water for their families, which means less time for taking care of what matters most to them. The time and energy women must give to access water is all-encompassing, disempowering, and plays an oppressive role in their lives.

The Sonder Project believes that water is a central issue to women's rights and empowerment, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. When The Sonder Project partners with rural communities in Burkina Faso and Malawi to construct a deep-water well, women can access clean water any time, any day, and they gain the freedom to spend more time with their family, earn a living, or go back to school. After a Sonder well is drilled, according to women we interviewed, they report saving hours each day, improved health for their families, improved community relations as they no longer compete over scarce resources, and greater economic opportunities. Access to water is transformed from an oppressive burden, to a fundamental right to be celebrated.
