Yousef Bashir's story shows how the political becomes personal. His family's story is the larger story of life in Gaza and the West Bank, as Palestinians try to retain their ancestral farm land.
We had planned to meet at Reem's, at 3301 East 12th Street, in Oakland, but it's converted to a community kitchen to feed the vulnerable during the pandemic. Her other restaurant, Dyafa, is temporarily closed.
Pomella is offering take-out, including some of the favorite menu items from its former restaurant, Ba-Bite.
Caviar offers delivery from several Middle Eastern restaurants in the Oakland - Berkeley area.
