2011 Holiday Party Recap

Bake Off Competition, 2011 Holiday Party
Complete Photo Gallery on Flickr

Our Annual Holiday Party drew 172 RPCVs, friends, family, recruiters, applicants and invitees to the Veterans Memorial Building on the shores of Lake Merritt. What an awesome way to end the 50th anniversary year!

Although the party "officially" started at 8pm the crowd rolled in early at 7:30p…kinda of makes me wonder if they were really Peace Corps Volunteers.

Sam Fielding won a prize poinsettia for most sociable RPCV, managing to blackout out his human bingo card. Suong Vong, Kathryn Rato and Ellen Davis-Zapata treated us with their baking skills winning Best Presentation, Most Creative and Best Tasting, respectively in the Holiday Bake Off competition.

Special thanks goes to Suong Vong, Jerome Nelson, Annika Dubrall, Joyce Hahn, Wendy Shapiro and Will Spargur who donated untold hours making sure this event was a success. And thanks to the people who volunteered to run the bar, the bake off competition, the human bingo, the registration table and the photo booth: Sierra Garthwaite, Jen Ross, Janet Pottier, Jordan Welty, Yune Lee, Martha Stein, Amelia T. Hambrecht , Kathryn Rato, Erik Scheller, Daniel Marlay, Jennifer Ross, Kathleen Hylen, Kathryn Yusi, Susan Birch-Carl, Heather Coleman, Corrine Kirkbride, Steve Osborne, Susan/Paul Sumner, Christopher Rodriguez, Katie Steed, and those who stepped in and helped during the party.

Thanks for joining us! We look forward to seeing you next year.

Represent!

Though originally conceived by the RPCVs of Benin, recent winners have included Cote d'Ivoire and Suriname, and it's time for a new champion!

This year, our event will be covered by the Oakland Tribune and San Jose Mercury News - the top three winners will have their recipes featured in a Food section front-page article in these newspapers!
